Literacy and being able to write are important to my family. I don't really think that it is especially important in any way, except that we need it to communicate. My family is fortunate enough to all be educated, so it's not a situation in that we have members of our family who are illiterate. It is more of a concept that is just expected and I guess in some ways taken granted for.

We definitely take for granted that we are literate. There are so many people in this world that would love to be able to read, and wish for it. Now, because we have to do it so much, we think of it as a chore rather than a gift. In todays world it is expected that everyone is literate, you cpuld barely drive a car or cook a meal without reading. Everywhere you go, you have to read. On the road there are advertisements, at restaurants there are menus, everywhere we go we read, read, read. And it is a good thing and we are lucky to be able to take it for granted.
ReplyDeleteMy family is the same way. We are all educated and it is basically expected of anyone to be literate. You need to be able to read and write. I do agree, we take it for granted too.
ReplyDeleteI agree that being literate is something that most people take for granted. It is something that we use every day; if we couldn't read or write, there are so many things that we would be unable to do, shopping for groceries would be nearly impossible for items without pictures.
